Owen Hayes
“I’m interested in the small changes that make a surface worth looking at again.”
Owen Hayes explores the character of surfaces shaped by time. Weathered stone, worn plaster, and the contours of dry earth inform his approach to texture and composition.
Working through layers of paint and textured material, he builds surfaces with subtle ridges, irregular edges, and quiet variations in tone. A restrained palette of chalk, sand, and warm brown allows these details to emerge gradually. As the light shifts, different parts of the surface come into view, inviting a slower and more attentive way of looking.
