Iris Bennett

“The tilt of a branch or the turn of a bird can become the beginning of a painting.”

Iris Bennett takes her starting point from the gestures of living things: a branch leaning toward light, the curve of a flower stem, or birds gathering at the water’s edge.

Her paintings combine recognizable natural forms with layered, atmospheric backgrounds. Pale feathers and delicate petals emerge against earthy colors, while the spacing between forms gives each composition its own movement. She is particularly interested in how a small change of posture or direction can bring a scene to life, creating works that reward close observation.
