Clara Wells
“I often begin with the light, and let the landscape take shape around it.”
Clara Wells is drawn to moments when a landscape seems to soften: mist settling over water, distant hills fading into cloud, or a pale band of light appearing along the horizon.
She works with gentle transitions of color and loosely defined forms, allowing sky, land, and water to meet gradually. Open areas give her compositions a sense of distance and breathing room. Her paintings hold onto the atmosphere of a place—the stillness, the muted light, and the feeling of standing quietly before an expansive view.
